Description:

The Greek Sotirios Boulgaris (in Italian Sotirio Bulgari) starts its career as a jeweller in his home village Kalarites, 1884 he founds his company and opens a shop in Rome in vie Sistina. The company founded that year is today famous under the name Bulgari (or Bvlgari written in ancient Roman style). The current flagship store in via dei Condotti is opened in 1905 by Bulgari himself. The store becomes in short time worldwide famous for its unique, high quality jewelry designs which combine Greek and Roman art. During the Second World War the Bulgaris opened their doors out of outrage for the raid of the Roman ghetto in October 1943. For their generous action on 31. December 2003 they are awarded the title of Righteous Among the Nations at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. In the 1970 Bulgari opened its first international locations – today the company has more than 230 retail locations worldwide. In the 1990s the first Bulgari perfume line was released. Under his tenure the company has established itself as a luxury goods brand recognized throughout the world. In 2001 Marriott International formed a joint venture with Bulgari Spa to launch a new luxury hotel brand – Bulgari Hotels & Resorts. The first hotel opened in Milan in 2004 and the second one in Bari in 2006. Today besides the jewelry Bulgari produces watches, handbags, fragrances and accessories. The jewelry design is distinctive and often imitated. In the 1970s many of the more expensive Bulgari pieces were characterized by instantly recognizable designs combining large and weighty gold links with black-surfaced steel.
