Nathan Swartz


Nathan Swartz gave the start of Timberland company in 1952 buying a half interest of Abington Shoe Company in Abington Massachusetts. Three years later in 1955 he bought the rest of the company and with the help of his sons started manufactoring shoes for private label stores for leading brand manufacturers for almost 10 years. In 1965 the Swartz family invented an unique technology for producing truly waterproof boots and shoes. In 1973 Timberland brand name was established and the first guaranteed waterproof boot under the Timberland name was created. The first advertising campaign was launched 3 years later and so the international expansion of the brand began. In 1980 Timberland made a tremendous impact on export markets beginning with Italy. Since 1990 the company has been manufacturing also womenswear line. In the years Timberland company launched a couple of social awareness campaigns - from anti-racism campaigns like "Give Racism the Boot" in 1992 to launching its Ethic Code and wining awards such as Business Ethics' Corporate Social Report's Corporate Citizenship Award and being placed for a variety of years in the " Best Companies To Work For". Due to its environmental and employers care, to its quality products and social responsibility the Timberland company has been successful for 58 years on the American and international markets.
